Dr. Dawn E. Tucker, DVM - Madison Veterinary Emergency Medical Director

Dr. Dawn E. Tucker, Medical Director at Madison Veterinary Emergency, has devoted most of her career to emergency and critical care veterinary medicine, driven by her passion for evidence-based veterinary medicine and her dedication to helping those patients in immediate need.

Dr. Tucker’s journey into emergency medicine began at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was one of the founding members of the Emergency and Critical Care Society for veterinary students. She has since maintained her membership in the International Emergency and Critical Care Society for professional veterinarians, attending the International Emergency and Critical Care Symposium regularly to stay up to date with the latest developments in emergency veterinary medicine.

After visiting Madison and the surrounding North Alabama area, Dr. Tucker fell in love with the community and all it has to offer for animal lovers like herself. She shares her life with a variety of farm animals, including chickens, turkeys, and a few rescues she has picked up along the way, providing them with a permanent safe place and a source of great enjoyment for her.

Dr. Tucker is also an accomplished competitor in several different dog sports, including North American Canine Scent Work, Schutzhund with her Dutch Shepherds and Belgian Malinois, and herding with her Border Collies. Her love for animals extends far beyond her work at the veterinary hospital.

Dr. Tucker is committed to offering exceptional emergency and critical care services to the patients of Madison and the surrounding area. Her compassion, expertise, and dedication make her an invaluable asset to the veterinary community and a trusted resource for pet owners in need of emergency care for their beloved companions.

Dr. Lollie Hayles, DVM

Dr. Lollie Hayles has been passionate about animal care since she was a little girl growing up on a farm in Arkansas. Lollie’s love for animals grew as she did. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas (Go Hogs!), she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian and obtained her DVM from Louisiana State University in 2006.

Over the past twelve years, Dr. Hayles has been an integral part of the Huntsville community, providing top-notch veterinary care for pets of all shapes and sizes. Her dedication to her furry patients is matched only by her devotion to her own pets. Dr. Hayles shares her home with three cats, Timon, Cross, and Meatball, and a dog named Skully, who, of course, are all spoiled rotten.

In her free time, Dr. Hayles indulges in her passion for cooking by experimenting with new recipes and whipping up delicious dishes for her friends and family. She also enjoys traveling and exploring new places and has a particular love for outdoor activities like hiking and camping.

Dr. Hayles is known for her compassionate approach to veterinary care, treating every patient as if they were her own beloved pets. With her extensive experience and warm personality, it’s no wonder why pets and their owners alike trust Dr. Lollie Hayles with their care.

Dr. Clare Shannon, DVM

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Clare Shannon to our dedicated team of veterinary professionals at Madison Veterinary Emergency. With her expertise and passion for animal care, Dr. Shannon brings a wealth of experience to our practice. Dr. Shannon graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, marking the beginning of her remarkable veterinary journey. After completing vet school, she joined the esteemed Gateway Animal Care group in Tennessee, where she worked as a mixed animal veterinarian, gaining valuable insights and honing her skills. In 2016, Dr. Shannon relocated to Huntsville, seeking new horizons in her career. She dedicated her talents to private practice, further solidifying her knowledge in the field. We proudly announce that Dr. Shannon has now found her professional home with the Madison Veterinary Emergency Group, joining our team in 2023.

Dr. Shannon’s commitment to excellence extends to her areas of interest within veterinary medicine. She specializes in emergency and critical care, where her expertise shines. Additionally, she finds fulfillment in cardiology, internal medicine, and surgery, showcasing her versatility and dedication to comprehensive pet care. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Shannon holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Huntingdon College, where she also made her mark as a Hall of Fame volleyball player for the Lady Hawks. Her passion for sports extends beyond the court, as she actively participates in indoor and outdoor HVBA volleyball leagues. Dr. Shannon is also an avid snowboarder and skier, having recently experienced the breathtaking Austrian Alps in Kitzbühel, Austria.

With a love for adventure and exploration, Dr. Shannon has traveled to several countries, having set foot on five of the seven continents. She embraces the beauty of nature through birdwatching and photography, capturing moments that touch her heart. Additionally, she finds solace and joy in horseback riding alongside her Tennessee Walking horse, Trooper. At home, Dr. Shannon shares her life with her loving husband, Trace, and an incredible fur family. Jake and Ivar, her cherished dogs, bring daily delight and companionship. Mocha, the feline member of the family, adds a touch of feline elegance, while Bowser, an African sulcata tortoise, captivates with its unique presence.

Melissa Ganley-Olds, Practice Manager/Hospital Administrator

Melissa’s love for veterinary medicine began 28 years ago as a volunteer while stationed at the Baumholder Germany military veterinary clinic. Over the years, she has honed her skills in a wide range of specialties, including general practice, feline care, behavior, and emergency medicine.

Her extensive knowledge and experience, coupled with her compassionate and dedicated approach to patient care, make her a highly qualified and exceptional Practice Manager/Hospital Administrator. Away from work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her loved ones, participating in competitive trap shooting, hiking, and kayaking.

Shelbie Cheek, Veterinary Technician

Shelbie is a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Technician at Madison Veterinary Emergency. With her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Columbia State Community College, she is well-equipped with the knowledge and expertise to provide top-notch care for critically ill pets.

Shelbie’s passion for helping animals and their families shines through in her work, and she takes great pride in her ability to make a positive impact on the lives of her patients. Her enthusiasm and dedication to the future of her profession here at Madison Veterinary Emergency is evident, and her commitment to her work is unwavering.

Alyssa Starns, Veterinary Assistant

Alyssa is one of our compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistants who is currently pursuing a degree in Veterinary Medicine. As a resident of Killen, Alabama, Alyssa has always had a passion for animal welfare, which inspired her to work in the veterinary field.

Alyssa’s dedication to providing exceptional care to every pet that comes through our doors makes her an invaluable asset to our team. She is continually expanding her knowledge and skills to provide the best possible care to every animal, especially those that are critically ill or injured. She is always ready to assist our veterinarians in any way possible and understands the importance of delivering compassionate care to pets and their owners.

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the great outdoors. She is kind-hearted and compassionate, and her gentle touch and warm personality will put you and your pets at ease during your visit to our hospital.

Amanda Cooner, Veterinary Assistant

Amanda is a skilled Veterinary Assistant who began her career in the veterinary field in 2021. She joined the team at Madison Veterinary Emergency shortly after, bringing with her a deep understanding of animal behavior and a commitment to providing exceptional care.

Before working with us, Amanda spent 11 years in the Navy, where she traveled extensively and gained valuable life experiences. After settling back in Alabama, she established a small hobby farm where she cared for a variety of furry and feathered friends.

Amanda’s unwavering dedication to her work and love for animals makes her a valuable member of our team. She always goes above and beyond to ensure that every animal receives the best possible treatment.

Stephanie Stonecipher, Veterinary Assistant/Veterinary Receptionist

Stephanie’s passion for animal care began in 2015 when she started trapping, spaying/neutering and returning multiple cats in her community. This experience sparked her interest in the field and she began her journey in veterinary medicine as a kennel assistant.

With her hard work and dedication, Stephanie quickly worked her way up to becoming a Veterinary Assistant. Her love for animals extends beyond her work, as she is also a dedicated pet owner, living with 3 dogs and 4 cats, and her patient husband.

Stephanie is currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician License, which will further enhance her skills and knowledge in the field. She is a well-rounded individual, who enjoys spending time with her pets, reading, and watching movies. With her passion, dedication, and hands-on experience, Stephanie is committed to providing the best possible care for your beloved pets.

Heather Pounders, Veterinary Receptionist

Heather is an invaluable team member at Madison Veterinary Emergency, serving as a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Receptionist. Although she is new to the veterinary field, Heather’s passion for animal welfare and her dedication to providing exceptional service to pet owners and their furry companions are unwavering.

During her free time, Heather enjoys exploring the great outdoors and participating in various outdoor activities such as hiking and kayaking. Spending time in nature helps Heather recharge and refocus, allowing her to provide the best possible care and support to clients who bring their critically sick or injured animals to Madison Veterinary Emergency.
